Online Casinos Strategies - Is Joss Whedon in Your Public Library?
September 22, 2004 -- Something is missing from this year"s Fall TV schedule: Joss Whedon. With the WB Network prematurely canceling "Angel" and the FOX Network mishandling "Firefly," it"s clear that fans will have to be more proactive in order to encourage the entertainment industry to give viewers more quality scripted programming. For fans of Joss Whedon, that means devising a plan to bring his shows to a wider audience and encourage the powers that be to bring more of his work to both the small and big screen.
The plan is simple: fans will raise money to purchase and donate DVDs of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Angel" and "Firefly" to public libraries. Here's how to participate:
- donate money to the project
- donate directly to a public library and contact the project to keep a tally
- fill out a request form at your local library for them to carry these materials
- libraries can contact the project and request items
To kick-off the Whedonverse Multimedia Project, organizers launched the "Hometown Libraries of the Stars" campaign. For this campaign, fans of the shows were given the opportunity to pay tribute to their favorite producer, writer, actor, etc., by nominating the library where the star grew up to receive an offer of DVD donations. The current nominees are: Joss Whedon (New York, NY), Julie Benz (Murrysville, PA), Adam Busch (East Meadow, NY), Jewel Staite (Vancouver, CAN), James Marsters (Modesto, CA) and Alyson Hannigan (Atlanta, GA). Another round of nominations will take place once the donations to these hometowns are fulfilled.
Avid fans know that it only takes watching one episode of any of these shows to get hooked. The public library system provides an excellent means to reach out to potential viewers and welcome them into the Whedonverse. In addition, fans are aware that brisk DVD sales can increase the odds of a favorite show gaining new life. After all, it helped convince Universal Pictures to bring back "Firefly" as a new movie entitled "Serenity" set for release in April 2005.
