Online Casinos Strategies - South Africa's Online Casinos Advance
Pigg's Peak and Silversands, South Africa's two major players in the multi-million dollar industry of online casinos may have a chance to profit greatly from a recent bill that was published concerning online gaming and online casinos. Under the new legislation, the government will endow online gaming licenses to online casinos. However, there will still be some grey areas of the bill which will demand further explanation.
After the publishing of the National Gaming Bill, South Africa has gotten closer to legalizing online gambling and online casinos in its country. The original gambling legislation, which was passed in 1996, does not at all mention online gambling, but rather refers to gambling in general. It specifies that gambling in South Africa should be governed by a set of values, and should be effectively regulated and licensed. These rules will surely be applied to the way online casinos and online gambling will be governed.
Additionally, the new law has a condition mentioned, calling for a committee within the National Gaming Board, or NGB, which will be responsible for devising a policy and legislation for online casinos in South Africa. Neil Dundas and Warren Weertman from Johannesburg law firm Bowman Gilfillan felt that the licensing requirement for online casinos should be dealt with at a later date because of the affect it would have on the livelihood of thousands of people. They explained that it would be wiser for the committee to complete its research first and later contemplate what steps to take regarding licensing.
